Help Solve Case Of Murdered Michigan Corrections Officer: MyFoxDETROIT.com
On December 19, 2011, HB 5002 (Workers Compensation) was signed into law changing how it will be implemented for all state employees moving forward. Police and Fire were exempt from the change and MCO lobbied hard to have Corrections included in this law enforcement carve-out. Ultimately, however, we are subject to the new law. MCO continues to look at all possible options as we move forward.
Please read the Senate Fiscal Analysis for more details about the changes now in effect.
The Department is seeking to eliminate the RUO Classification to save money (they claim up to $8M). The RUO Classification plays a vital role in the safe running of our housing units, and consequently the prison as a whole. While the Department can move to eliminate the classification, there are still requirements within Civil Service on how it is done.
Please take a moment to send a letter to Governor Snyder, Director Heyns, and the Civil Service Commission educating them on the continued need for RUO’s in the Michigan Department of Corrections.
Simply click here to send your letter. They need to hear from you whether you are a CO or an RUO… you can tell them what it is like inside.
We’ve provided you with a starting point and some background… but please make it your own. It is your story that needs to be told.
