Members, are you concerned about the legislature’s efforts to outsource our state services?
Speakers from unions and other groups concerned with outsourcing and government transparency will address the Michigan Civil Service Commission about its contract approval process at the May 7 commission meeting. We’re pressuring commissioners to follow through with their idea to form a work group to examine Civil Service rules related to contract approval. The current rules should be changed or clarified to take quality, not just dollars, into consideration.
The Aramark food service contract is just the most recent example of outsourcing that has sacrificed quality and safety to save a buck.
Interested members are encouraged to attend the MCSC meeting at 10 a.m. May 7. The MCSC meets at Capitol Commons, 400 S. Pine, Lansing. Members may park in the MCO parking lot until it is full.
Hope to see you there.
